27/02/17

The first edition of the "Young European Cinema" project, a joint initiative by the EUNIC network and the Conde Duque Cultural Centre in Madrid, was held at the centre from February 21 to 25 2017.

Taking part in this first event, which was dedicated to young female directors, were eight cultural institutes from EU member states, as well as the Bulgarian Embassy, which with the support of the State Institute for Culture presented director Vessela Dancheva's short animated film "Travelling Country" .

Prior to the screening, the head of the embassy's cultural service gave a short presentation about the author and the film, commenting on the main idea and the universal theme of the film - the search for freedom and national identity, as well as some specifics such as the symbolic connection with the history of the Proto-Bulgarians and the characteristic musical elements from Bulgarian folklore and Orthodox plainsong.

The organisers are determined to continue the initiative with the next edition of "Young European Cinema" in early 2018, with the aim of participation of works from all EU member state. The director of the cultural centre, Ms. Hernandez, announced that every effort would be made for the project to become well-known, with many future editions and opportunities for debates.
