Opening of the exhibition 'Bulgarian Monuments under the Protection of UNESCO' in Komotini

The State Institute for Culture's travelling exhibition "Bulgarian Monuments under the Protection of UNESCO" opened on December 5 2016 in the building of the Rectorate of Democritus University in Komotini.

The project was jointly implemented by the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Thessaloniki, the State Institute for Culture and the University. The exhibition includes 16 colour posters with photographs by Alexander Nishkov of sites in Bulgaria that included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Opening speeches were given by Mr. Vladimir Pisanchev, Consul General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Thessaloniki, Rector Prof. Atanasios Karabinis, Deputy Rectors, Heads of Faculty of History and Ethnology and Languages, Literatures and Civilizations of the Black Sea Countries.

There was a positive assessment of the importance of the good co-operation between the Consulate-General and the University, and that such initiatives contribute to closer relations between the two countries that are neighbours and friends.

A Greek translation of the book by Yordan Yovkov "Stara Planina Legends", by the lecturer Dr. Hristina Marku and students from Democritus University, was also presented.

The event was attended by officials from the army, church, police and local authorities, students, public figures, media, and friends of Bulgaria.
