21/11/16
From October 26 to November 6 2016, the ninth edition of the largest children's art festival in the US, the European Children's Festival, was held in Washington, DC.

The festival aims to present the art and culture of the EU member states to American audiences. The event was attended by the embassies of the EU Member States in the United States, in partnership with the EU Delegation and cultural and educational organisations from the federal district of Columbia, and the states of Maryland and Virginia.

With the co-operation of the State Institute for Culture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, two Bulgarian films took part in the festival.

Bulgaria was represented by screenings of Valeri Petrov's tale "Puk" - the first full-length Bulgarian animated film for 30 years (director Anri Kulev) and the short animated film "Grumpy Does Repairs" (directors Radostina Neykova and Sofia Ilieva). The films were shown in museums, cultural centres, Montgomery College and the Embassy of France. In addition to the screenings of cartoons, Bulgaria was represented by a musical performance by the Orfeya folklore ensemble at a public library in Washington.
