On May 4 2016, the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria in Spain, Kostadin Kodzhabashev, and the mayor of the city of Cáceres, Ms. Elena Nevado del Campo, officially opened the exhibition by the State Institute for Culture "The Power of Civil Society: the Fate of the Jews in Bulgaria".

Addressing the audience which included governors of the city and region as well as of cultural bodies in Cáceres and students from university faculties, the Bulgarian Ambassador noted that "developments in the country during the Holocaust is a vivid example of how totalitarian tendencies, aggression, the persecution of entire communities, and racial, ethnic and religious intolerance succeed only when indifference and apathy dominate the public. The main and universally valid lessons from this period in Bulgarian history and the biggest challenge we face now, is the need to create and promote a culture of solidarity and tolerance, of maintaining coexistence, peace and democracy. " The exhibition's visit to Cáceres is organized by the Embassy of Bulgaria in Madrid, in collaboration with the State Institute for Culture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria and the City of Cáceres.

The exhibition will be on show in the Palacio de la Isla until the end of May.
