The Bogidar Ikonomov's poster series 'European images' justaposes in a common ground emblematic portrait images from the European and Bulgarian painting and plastic traditions. Beyond their visual ttre these characters impress with certain projected dignity and emotional influence. The European images of recent or Renaiscance Madonnas, classic narratives and legendary figures are easily recognisible. Their visual paralels created by Bulgarian artists Maistora, Vassil Stoilov, Zlatyu Boyadgiev, Dechko Uzunov etc. resonate close to the feelings of Bulgarians. Situated together in a common context, these images transform our self-identification as Europeans into a rich emotional experience.
