Bulgaria, the invisible Europe - Month of contemporary Bulgarian cinema in Spain

From January 5 to 19, a cycle of contemporary Bulgarian films made in the past 15 years was presented at the Catalan Film Archive in Barcelona. The films are also to be presented in Spain's capital city Madrid in February. The project was initiated by the Bulgarian Embassy in Spain and the films for the programme were selected by film critic Mariana Hristova. The project is being carried out with the support of the Spanish National Film Archive in Madrid and the Catalan Film Archive in Barcelona and with the assistance, on the Bulgarian side, of the National Film Centre, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and State Institute for Culture.

The screenings opened in Barcelona on January 5 with a showing of the film "Zift" by Javor Gardev, and on January 7, there were screenings of 10 titles included in the programme: "And the Lord came down to see us" (2000) by Peter Popzlatev; "Emigrants "(2002) by Lyudmil Todorov, " A Christmas tree Upside Down "(2006) by Ivan Cherkelov and Vassil Zhivkov; "Zift "(2007) by Yavor Gardev; "Shelter" (2010) by Dragomir Sholev; "Ave" (2011) by Konstantin Bojanov, "The Colour of the chameleon" (2012) by Emil Hristov; "Victoria" (2014) by Maya Vitkova, and the documentaries "The boy who was a king" (2011) by Andrey Paunov and "Tsvetanka" (2013) by Julian Tabakov. In Barcelona, director Maya Vitkova was the special guest.
