Opening of the Exhibition "Bulgaria and Mosaics" in Tunis
On November 4, 2024, the "Bulgaria and Mosaics" exhibition, part of the "Traveling Expositions" program of the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs, was opened in the Archaeological Complex in the ancient Roman city of Oudhna near the capital Tunis. The official ceremony was attended by Ambassador Veselin Dyankov, Tarek Bakush, Director General of the Tunisian National Heritage Institute, Ivan Vassilev, President of the Balkan Heritage Foundation and Snezhana Joveva-Dimitrova, Director of the State Institute for Culture. The opening was attended by ambassadors, diplomats, representatives of the Bulgarian community and journalists.
The exhibition is carried out on the initiative of the Embassy of Bulgaria in Tunisia under the Program of Activities in the Field of Public, Cultural and Digital Diplomacy and Strategic Communications and was organized with the assistance of the State Institute for Culture and the Tunisian National Heritage Institute.
The exhibition "Bulgaria and the Mosaics" was realized by the "Balkan Heritage" Foundation in partnership with the State Institute for Culture. It presents the richness and diversity of Bulgaria's mosaic heritage, bringing together mosaics created by different civilizations over the past two millennia, most of which date from Antiquity (2nd-6th centuries), but also from the Middle Ages, as well as modern mosaics from the 20th century .
The exposition has been successfully visited in various forums in Italy, the Czech Republic, Norway and Hungary, as well as in various museums and galleries in Bulgaria. Its presentation in Tunis, which is known for one of the richest mosaic collections in the world, is its first presentation on the African continent and has aroused interest and curiosity among the numerous audiences at the Archaeological Complex "Oudhna", where it will remain until November 17.
Before the official opening, Ambassador Veselin Dyankov and the author of the exhibition Ivan Vasilev from the Balkan Heritage Foundation presented the event in an interview to the popular electronic publication Tunisie.co.
